Membership Renewal

Renewal: if a process when a Member pays for their membership to last another period (year or month) before the current membership is cancelled (before the grace period expires).

In other words, it’s a transaction from Active to Active (early renewal) or from Expired to Active (normal renewal) states.

Types:

  • manual: by a Member
  • automated: by the cron job (if a stored payment method available)

Memberships have to be renewed at the end of their billing cycle (monthly or annually). Broadly speaking, there are two versions:

  1. Those members who have stored their payment method (e.g. credit card or PayPal account)
  2. Those who have either didn’t store their payment method or have deleted it.

Early renewals

For individual Members it's possible to renew their Membership 3 months before expiration (see ixdf_membership.early_renewal_x_months_before_expiration config variable).

The cost of the remaining days of their current Membership will be deducted from the price they need to pay. Upon early renewal, their current Membership will be canceled and replaced with a new Membership using a standardized billing period (1 year). Early renewal is only available for Memberships billed annually.
